Muscle Building Supplement Scams
Hey guys, I want to highlight to you some potential muscle building supplement scams, as I always get asked if taking muscle building supplements is necessary and if so which ones would you recommend.
Having spent the last 38 years involved in muscle building I have seen my fair share of muscle building supplement scams. I am sure you have seen the big full page advertisements in all the big bodybuilding mags, supplements claiming to build super sized muscle whilst not even working out blah, blah, blah…..
The truth is that the supplement market is a multi billion dollar industry and most of the big mags are sponsored by the supplement companies. The muscled models that claim to use the products generally are anabolic genetically adjusted individuals not mere mortals like ourselves.
There are some fairly crafty tricks that are employed by the supplement companies that are designed to draw us in and rid us of our hard earned money. You can however make your own potent muscle building supplements using ingredients readily available from any major health stores at a fraction of the cost and which are far more potent.
Back to the point, let me just emphasize the 3 muscle building scams that you may regularly be exposed to
1) The Ingredients label
The first is the ingredients label. Make sure you read the supplements ingredient label very carefully. If the words “patent pending” or “proprietary blend” are mentioned I would be particularly weary and personally I would not buy it. From my experience most companies using this approach combine multiple compounds whether in fact they work or not and make it sound official by using those specific words. My advice Save your money!!
2) The quantity of the muscle building agent in supplement
This is a scam that I see being used very frequently. Sparrow proportions of muscle building compound. Yep admittably the product does contain substances which have been proven to build muscle and burn fat but the specific quantities present in the product are way to low to have any positive effects that is unless you were to take very large dose which of course would mean more supplement which equals more money!. Vicious cycle
3) The use of Scientific Jargon
This one always tickles me. Tell me how many times have you seen this tactic being used. If all else fails use a super long latin name for the ingredients of the compound on the label. Throughout life we are exposed to these elongated names predominantly in the medicine industry. Once a super long latin name is used in the ingredients the price seems to rise accordingly.
I have heard from one reliable source that one such expensive advanced and very commonly known supplement was being sold with its latin name and hence it came to light it was just plain old creatine and whats more they were charging a fortune for it. Crafty hey.
Now don’t get me wrong there is definitely a place for muscle building supplements in bodybuilding but you have to be aware of the increasing number of scams that there are around.
