2) Revealing the truth about protein…
It’s true. If you exercise regularly, you DO need to eat more protein.
Most people starting an exercise programme are advised to eat more carbohydrate - found in foods such as bread, pasta or rice. High protein foods, such as chicken, beef or fish, are relegated to the bottom of the food league. These recommendations are usually made by well-meaning (but out-dated) nutritionists who insist that the RDA (recommended daily amount) for protein is enough to cover your protein requirements.
In fact, protein expert Dr. Peter Lemon recently concluded that exercise more than doubles your need for protein. Based on his review of the research, Lemon reports that if you're exercising on a regular basis, you'll need to consume at least 1.7 grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight. For people who want to build muscle as fast as possible, this figure should be nearer 2.5 grams per kilogram of bodyweight.
If you don’t get enough protein in your diet, then your body starts using its own sources of protein for energy. And guess where your body gets the protein from? It starts eating away at your muscles - slowing your metabolic rate, reducing your strength AND bringing muscle growth to a grinding halt.
If you've been training with weights without seeing much in the way of results, make sure you're eating enough protein - either in the form of whole food (such as chicken, fish or lean red meat) or a protein supplement.

A new study has added to the growing body of evidence showing that protein and carbohydrate after exercise is a potent and highly effective way to stimulate new muscle growth.
Test subjects took part in 60 minutes of exercise. Immediately afterwards, they were given a drink containing just carbohydrates, or a blend of 10 grams of protein, 8 grams of carbohydrate, and 3 grams of fat.
When subjects were given only carbohydrate, results showed a LOSS of muscle protein. In contrast, the supplement containing protein AND carbohydrate increased the speed at which new muscle protein was created by 600%!
In short, a blend of protein and carbohydrate taken immediately after exercise is one of the most effective ways to build new muscle.

A number of recent studies have shown that consuming protein and carbohydrate immediately prior to, and straight after exercise, could significantly speed up muscle growth. In a recent study, scientists at the Vanderbilt University Medical Centre gave subjects a protein and carbohydrate supplement either:
1) Immediately following exercise
2) Three hours after exercise
Results showed that protein synthesis (the term used by scientists to describe muscle growth) was 300% greater when the supplement was taken immediately after exercise, compared to when it was taken 3 hours later.
Protein synthesis was doubled
A blend of carbohydrate and protein is the best way to make sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need in the critical period immediately after exercise. Moreover, it’s also been shown that a carbohydrate and protein drink taken before exercise might actually be MORE effective.
Researchers at the University of Texas gave test subjects a liquid protein/carbohydrate supplement either before or after a 45-minute weight-training session. Results showed that protein synthesis was more than TWICE as high when subjects consumed protein and carbohydrate before exercise, compared to drinking it straight after the workout.
According to the research team, consuming carbohydrate and protein before exercise, "is more effective than after exercise." Because the flow of blood around your body is greater during exercise than it is after, protein consumed before you train is delivered more quickly to your muscles. Click here to read more.........

If you need a fresh way to vary your training programme or shock stubborn muscles into some new growth, then you ought to give reverse training a try. The reverse training technique is simple to use and can be a highly effective way to stimulate rapid growth. It involves reversing your normal exercise order for a given muscle group.
Let's take your chest as an example. Normally, you probably start a chest workout with some heavy basic movements - maybe flat bench presses followed by incline presses. Then, you may move to some machine work (i.e. the seated machine press), followed by some cable crossovers.
With reverse training, you start with your isolation movements and progress to your basic movements. So, you'd begin with cable crossovers and flyes (heavier than usual), go through your machine work, and actually finish up with the bench press.
